Car of the Decade?
A British Motoring magazine has been asking its writers to nominate a car that defines the last decade. Names banded about include: the new Mini, Rolls Royce Phantom, Audi R8 and even the Ford Fiesta MK VI.
I thought the Nissan GT-R could be in with a shout - the ultimate expression of Japanese dominance for the fraction of a price of a Porsche. Technology that seemingly overcomes the Laws of Physics...
Or how about the Ford F-150 or any number of shoddy GM products? Toyota Prius? Cadillac Escalade?
The Lamborghini Gallardo? Not even the Italians can get away with making unreliable cars nowadays.
And for the coming decade? Anything by Tata, Geely, Roewe, SAC.
Your thoughts please.

I am biased on this topic, but I would nominate the Subaru Impreza WRX STI. The 2000's brought a return of the high powered cars and the emergence of rally inspired Japanese stingers. I think the STI really encapsulates all of the decade. Arrogance, raw power, no excuses. We probably will never see that type of car in mass production in the new era on fuel economy. And rightfully so.
Bugatti Veyron or Porsche Cayenne as symbols of over indulgence.
For me, the 2000's were a period of time in which everything was kinda rehashed...not really any innovation aside from communications and energy. Things that drive our culture are re-invented from other eras. Seems to me like we ushered in 2010 where 1999, 1989 or 1969 left off. This reflected on our vehicle manufacturing.
I mean, look at teen pregnancy, after a dip in the mid 2000's is going back to Nirvana day's levels.
Fashion, Whisky Tango Foxtrot captain! I saw a guy wearing an argyle pattern the other day. Cashmere sweaters are pretty cool...again. Oh and thanks to the green movement (I guess the hippies were right all along) hemp, bamboo and soy fabrics are in play....again.
Even with music, although good music does exist in the dark hollows of where our good tastes reside, the pop and rock charts are full of electronic, voiced over, auto-tuned, computer driven drivel...sort of like the 80's.
That's why I would submit the noble Honda Civic hybrid for nomination. This car has been around forever, and with the addition of the hybrid system gets good gas mileage so we don't have to worry about the arabs messing with our fuel again...like in the 70's.
Besides the handling is pretty tight, just like everyone's wallets right now and the acceleration is sluggish...just like the economy.
The perfect fit.
